How do I deep clean my GBB pistol?

Field-strip the gun. Clean the inner barrel with a cleaning rod and microfiber cloth. Wipe the slide rails and apply fresh silicone oil. Clean the hop-up bucking with a dry cotton swab (no oil on the bucking contact surface). Inspect all seals, clean the magazine valves, reassemble, and function-test.

What is the difference between silicone oil and silicone grease?

Silicone oil (liquid) is for general lubrication of moving parts and seals. Silicone grease (thicker) is for long-lasting protection on seals and O-rings that don't move frequently. Use oil for rails and valves; grease for static seals during reassembly.

How often should I clean my inner barrel?

Every 1,000–2,000 rounds, or after playing in dusty/dirty conditions. A dirty barrel is the #1 cause of accuracy loss. Cleaning takes 2 minutes with a cleaning rod — there's no reason to skip it.

Can I use gun cleaning solvents on my airsoft pistol?

No. Real firearm solvents are too harsh for airsoft rubber seals and plastic parts. Use only airsoft-safe products: silicone oil, microfiber cloths, and dry cotton swabs. Isopropyl alcohol can be used sparingly on metal parts only.

How do I prevent rust on my airsoft gun?

Wipe down metal surfaces after each use, especially after playing in humidity or rain. Apply a thin coat of silicone oil to external metal. Store in a dry environment with silica gel packets. Full-metal guns need more attention than polymer models.

My hop-up bucking is swollen. What caused this and how do I fix it?

Swelling is caused by petroleum-based oils (never use WD-40 or gun oil on airsoft). The bucking must be replaced — swelling is irreversible. Going forward, use only 100% silicone oil, and keep oil away from the bucking's contact surface with the BB.

How do I maintain my magazines long-term?

Every 3–6 months: disassemble, inspect O-rings for cracking, replace if needed, apply silicone grease to seals during reassembly, check feed lips for wear, test with gas for leaks. Store with a small gas charge. Properly maintained magazines last years.

Should I disassemble my gun completely for cleaning?

For routine maintenance, field-stripping (slide removal) is sufficient. Full disassembly is only needed for part replacement or deep troubleshooting. If you're not comfortable with full disassembly, stick to field-strip level — improper reassembly causes more problems than dirt.

How do I clean a tracer unit?

Remove the tracer unit, wipe the exterior. Use a dry cotton swab to gently clean the LED area and inner tube. Don't use liquids inside the unit. Check the battery and replace if dimming. Reattach ensuring proper thread alignment.

What maintenance does an HPA setup require?

Inspect air lines for wear/cracks monthly. Check regulator output with a gauge periodically. Drain moisture from the tank (most tanks have a drain). Inspect tank hydro date — carbon fiber tanks require hydrostatic testing every 5 years. Keep fittings clean and lightly lubricated.

How do I store my gear between seasons?

Clean everything thoroughly. Apply silicone oil to guns and magazine seals. Store guns in cases with silica gel. Remove batteries from electronics. Hang plate carriers (don't compress). Store BBs sealed. Check everything before the new season starts.

My silicone oil seems to have separated. Is it still good?

Some separation is normal — shake well before use. If the oil has changed color, smells rancid, or has visible particles, replace it. Quality silicone oil stored properly lasts 3–5 years.

How do I fix a stripped screw on my airsoft gun?

For minor stripping, try a rubber band between screwdriver and screw for grip. For severe cases, use a screw extractor kit. Prevent by always using the correct size screwdriver and not overtightening. Replace with quality hex screws where possible.

Should I lubricate the trigger mechanism?

Sparingly. A tiny drop of silicone oil on trigger pivot points reduces friction. Avoid over-lubrication — excess oil attracts dirt and can migrate to the hop-up. If the trigger works smoothly, leave it alone.

How do I clean my red dot sight?

Use a microfiber lens cloth (same as for glasses). For stubborn dirt, breathe on the lens and wipe gently. Never use paper towels or rough cloths — they scratch coatings. Keep the lens protector on during games.

What is the best way to clean a plate carrier?

Remove all pouches and accessories. Hand wash with mild detergent in cool water. Air dry completely (never machine dry — heat damages materials). For odor, add a cup of white vinegar to the wash water.

How often should I replace my recoil spring?

Every 10,000–15,000 rounds, or when you notice sluggish slide return. It's a $5–10 part that significantly affects reliability. Keep a spare — it's one of the most common wear items.

My gun has a weird smell after firing. Is this normal?

A slight propellant smell is normal with green gas/CO2. A strong chemical or burning smell is not — stop using the gun and inspect for damaged seals, melting plastic, or electrical issues (if applicable). When in doubt, have it checked.

How do I winterize my gas guns?

Switch to CO2 or HPA for winter. If using green gas: keep magazines warm (inside jacket), use high-flow valves, apply fresh silicone oil (cold thickens old oil), and expect reduced performance. Store guns indoors, not in cold garages.

What spare parts should I bring to every game?

Minimum kit: spare magazine seals/O-rings, silicone oil, inner barrel cleaning rod, hex key set, spare BBs, spare gas. This covers 90% of field-fixable issues. A small parts organizer keeps everything accessible.
