What brands of green gas are recommended?

Popular reliable brands include WE, Puff Dino, and Nuprol. Avoid unknown brands — inconsistent gas quality can cause performance issues and seal damage. Stick with reputable manufacturers for consistent pressure and clean-burning propellant.

Is there a difference between green gas and 'red gas' or 'black gas'?

Yes. These are higher-pressure variants that deliver more power but increase wear on the gun. Pressure varies by brand — check the manufacturer's rating on the can. Only use them in guns rated for higher pressure (typically full-metal models). Standard guns should stick with regular green gas.

How long does a can of green gas last?

A standard 1000ml green gas can provides approximately 1,500–2,000 shots in a pistol (roughly 50–60 magazine fills). Actual mileage varies with temperature, gun efficiency, and fill technique.

Can I use propane instead of green gas?

Technically yes — green gas is essentially propane with silicone oil added. However, pure propane lacks the lubricating silicone, so you must manually add silicone oil to maintain seals. An adapter is also required. For convenience and seal longevity, pre-mixed green gas is recommended.

What is the shelf life of green gas cans?

Unopened green gas cans last 3–5 years if stored properly (cool, dry, away from heat). Once opened, use within 1–2 years for best performance. Old cans may have reduced pressure.

Are CO2 cartridges all the same?

No. Use 12g threaded or non-threaded cartridges as specified by your magazine. Food-grade and industrial CO2 cartridges may have different purity levels. Stick with airsoft/airgun-specific brands for consistent performance and seal safety.

Can I partially use a CO2 cartridge and save the rest?

No. Once punctured, a CO2 cartridge will slowly leak even if the gun isn't fired. It's best to use the full cartridge in one session. Remove and discard the spent cartridge after play.

What is an HPA regulator and do I need one?

An HPA regulator controls the output pressure from your air tank to your gun (typically 80–120 PSI for pistols (never exceed 140 PSI; Tokyo Marui-spec pistols stay at or below 80 PSI)). Yes, you need one — unregulated tank pressure (3000–4500 PSI) would destroy your gun. Popular regulators include Wolverine and Redline brands.

What size HPA tank should I get?

For pistol use, a 48ci/3000psi or 62ci/3000psi tank is sufficient for a full day. Larger tanks (90ci) last longer but are heavier. Carbon fiber tanks are lighter than aluminum but more expensive.

How do I connect HPA to a GBB pistol?

You need an HPA tap (replaces the magazine fill valve), an air line, a regulator, and a tank. The tap screws into the magazine base, connecting via the line to your tank setup. M4-style HPA adapters that replace the entire magazine are also available for some models.

Is HPA allowed at all airsoft fields?

Most fields allow HPA, but some have specific rules (e.g., tournament locks on regulators, maximum PSI limits). Always check field rules before bringing HPA. Some indoor CQB fields restrict HPA due to noise or rate-of-fire concerns.

What is the cost difference between green gas, CO2, and HPA over time?

Green gas: ~$12–15 per 1000ml can (~1,500 shots) = ~$0.01/shot. CO2: ~$0.50–0.75 per cartridge (~60 shots) = ~$0.01/shot. HPA: tank fill ~$5 for thousands of shots = <$0.005/shot, but requires $200+ upfront for tank/regulator/line. HPA is cheapest long-term for heavy players.

Can I fly with green gas or CO2 on an airplane?

No. Pressurized gas cans and CO2 cartridges are prohibited in both carry-on and checked baggage. Ship them separately or purchase at your destination.

What temperature range is safe for storing gas cans?

Store between 0°C and 40°C (32°F–104°F). Never expose to temperatures above 50°C (122°F) — risk of rupture. Don't store in freezing conditions long-term as it can affect valve seals.

Why does my gun shoot weaker as the magazine gets empty?

This is called 'cool-down effect.' As gas is released, the remaining gas cools, reducing pressure. It's more pronounced in rapid fire. Pause between shots to let the magazine warm up, or switch to a fresh magazine.

What is 'dry firing' and does it damage gas guns?

Dry firing means firing without BBs loaded. Occasional dry fire is fine, but excessive dry firing can damage the loading nozzle and hop-up bucking. Always try to avoid dry firing — count your shots or use magazines with last-round indicators if available.

How do I know when my green gas can is empty?

The can feels lighter, gas flow during filling becomes weak or stops, and you may hear only propellant without liquid transfer. Shake the can — if no liquid sloshing sound, it's empty.

Can I use green gas in a CO2-rated gun?

Yes, but performance will be lower than with CO2. The gun is built to handle higher pressure, so green gas is safe but won't achieve the same velocity. Some players do this in cold weather when CO2 is too powerful for field limits.

What is the difference between 8g and 12g CO2 cartridges?

12g is the standard for airsoft pistol magazines. 8g cartridges are smaller and used in some compact guns or airguns. They are not interchangeable — use the size specified for your magazine. 12g provides roughly 50% more shots than 8g.

How do I prevent gas leaks when filling?

Ensure the can nozzle is firmly and squarely seated in the fill valve. Fill with the magazine inverted (valve up). If leaking persists, the fill valve O-ring may need silicone oil or replacement.

Is it normal for CO2 magazines to get cold during use?

Yes. CO2 expansion causes significant cooling — the magazine may frost over during rapid fire. This is normal but reduces efficiency. Let the magazine warm between strings of fire for best performance.

What should I do with empty CO2 cartridges?

Empty CO2 cartridges are recyclable steel. Puncture-free empties can go in metal recycling. Don't throw them on the field — clean up after yourself. Some fields have designated collection bins.

Can HPA be used in any GBB pistol?

Most GBB pistols can be HPA-tapped with the right adapter, but some models have better aftermarket HPA support than others. Hi-Capa and M9 platforms have the most HPA tap options. Check compatibility before purchasing HPA components.

What's the best gas for indoor CQB?

Green gas is ideal for indoor CQB: adequate power for close range, softer recoil for fast follow-up shots, and quieter than CO2. Most indoor fields have lower FPS limits that green gas naturally meets.

How does humidity affect gas gun performance?

High humidity has minimal direct effect on gas performance. However, humid conditions can accelerate external corrosion on metal parts. Wipe down your gun after playing in humid or rainy conditions and apply a light coat of silicone oil to metal surfaces.
